Today marks 10 years of Creative Boom. No, we can't believe it either. That's a whole decade of celebrating, inspiring and supporting the creative community. Started from a spare bedroom on 24 July 2009, it was an idea I had following the global economic crisis – a frightening time for many creative professionals.
It was a case of giving something back. I wanted to share people's work online to give them a little boost and offer career and business tips to provide further support.
Since then, so much has changed. Those of you who have followed Creative Boom over the last 10 years will know how much we've grown. But you've grown with us, too – often facing and overcoming challenging times – and we really wanted to celebrate that and everything we've achieved together.
Which leads me on to say we have a rather wonderful announcement.
To mark our 10th anniversary, we've launched Creative Boom X where we've invited 10 artists and designers to each design a limited-edition poster – all of which will be available to buy in our new online shop, launching soon. What's more, all profits will go to the British Heart Foundation – a charity very much close to our hearts.
In alphabetical order, we have commissioned Abbey Lossing, Anna Parini, Anthony Burrill, Araki Koman, Craig&Karl, David Sedgwick of StudioDBD, Lisa Congdon, Stan Chow, Rob Lowe of Supermundane, and Verònica Fuerte of Hey.
These are people we feel represent the spirit of Creative Boom, those we've previously featured and ones we greatly admire.
We aren't revealing their creations until our special birthday party in Manchester this September. More details on the free event to follow, along with details of how to get your hands on tickets. You'll be able to buy the posters on the night but an online shop will go live on Friday 6 September where you'll also be able to purchase them.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the artists and designers who said "yes" six months ago to help us mark our 10th anniversary. We really couldn't have done it without you.
Big thanks to our headline sponsor and friends, Shillington, for supporting Creative Boom X and making this all possible. Special thanks to G . F Smith for generously supplying all the paper and materials. And much love to WithPrint in Somerset, not just for printing these wonderful posters, but for giving us loads of help and advice along the way.
The hugest of thanks to Andy Mallalieu for making me realise that it's not "showing off" if you celebrate a milestone such as this. Without him, I wouldn't have bothered to mark our anniversary. Andy is one of the founders of Nine Sixty who designed the branding and website for our Creative Boom X celebration. Thank you so much for bringing it to life and supporting the cause.
I must also thank Danielle Molyneux for allowing me to throw ideas her way and have the reassurance that I'm doing things right – this is the first time we've ever staged something like this, so Dani's creative expertise has been invaluable.
A very special mention to my dearest friend, Paul. Your kindness and support have been overwhelming. Thanks for cheering me on and reminding me what's important in life.
And finally, to my husband Tom, the "silent" partner behind Creative Boom (and our resident software developer) who likes to stay out of the limelight – if it wasn't for you, then I wouldn't have made it this far. Thanks for making me stay strong during all those times I wanted to quit. You were right! Passion, patience and perseverance always win in the end.
