Artist Me Kyeoung Lee has just released a new series of paintings, documenting convenience stores in different parts of South Korea.
Although the country was on lockdown for most of 2020 so far, she was able to work from drawings she'd already made during her travels prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. "Luckily enough, I was able to continue painting, despite having to stay home," she tells Creative Boom.
Using mainly pen and acrylic paint on paper, her delicate artworks pick out the different details of each store. With products often spilling out onto pavements, varying signage, and bicycles leaning against their walls, these little shops are part of everyday life and we get to see them during winter, spring, summer, and autumn.
The series, A Small Store, is to go on show at an upcoming solo exhibition. The paintings are also presented in a new book, out this month. Visit leemekyeoung.com for more information.
