How much do you know about the Mediterranean? Do you envisage playing on a pink sandy beach, or watching Formula One cars zoom past from your view on a super-yacht?
In her new book, A Journey through the Mediterranean, London illustrator Bethany Lord considers these perceptions to provide a bright and colourful travel guide for children. "Set your adventurous spirit free and imagine snorkelling in the clear turquoise sea in Malta," she says. "Try exploring the bright blue town of Chefchaouen and immerse yourself in the different cultures and views of the countries and Islands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea."
All of the book's illustrations are from different perspectives, exploring colours and cultures that encourage children to engage and explore the world around them. From aerial views of beaches in Greece and France to city landscapes of Barcelona and Venice, the playful style will undoubtedly encourage a young mind to learn more.
Bethany graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2018 and is a recent MA Illustration graduate from Kingston University in London where she now lives.
Her work is bold and colourful focusing on lifestyle and travel. She adds: "My latest work explores aerial views, which is all created digitally. I have drawn on my experiences from travelling and experiencing different cultures, inspiring me to create pieces of work, around travel and lifestyle. Exploring and moving back to my hometown of London has continued to inspire me."
