Versus is a new solo exhibition by Spanish artists Pichi & Avo that features both large and small-scale paintings, drawings, and sculptures that combine modern and traditional cultural themes, including an enormous fallen column that has seemingly broken into pieces to reveal a colourful graffitied interior, much like you would expect from traditional seaside rock.
The piece is inspired by the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens and forms the central focus of PichiAvo’s first show at the Underdogs Gallery in Lisbon. "Consciousness, being aware of the moment, or rather, of the moments of the transition in which one thing turns into another, adopting the attributes of its opposites, establishes for us an interesting conceptual interaction," explain the duo.
"For this exhibition we selected pictorial works that converse in the same space, which is divided into two distinct itineraries yet at the same time connected by a central installation that represents, in both material and spiritual terms, the fallen column of the Temple of Zeus, in Athens, and which shows the greatest of virtues, freedom."
Versus runs until 9 May 2018 at Underdogs Gallery in Lisbon, Portugal. To find out more, visit pichiavo.com.
