"The possibility that light is visible in fog fascinates me," says Lucas Zimmermann – a German photographer whose series, Traffic Lights, has captured the attention of the world since it began two years ago.
Using long exposure to photograph the iridescent beams of traffic lights on wintry, foggy nights, he presents a tranquil collection of images that look unreal and mystical, as though the once mundane street has taken on a new meaning.
"The unknown hue of blueish light is like the fog hidden for the human eye, but photography shows us things we otherwise overlook, such as a simple traffic light on the street," Zimmermann adds. "An all known object which produces a strong effect in an unnatural situation with a simple photographic setup."
These particular images lie under Traffic Lights 2.0, his latest series that continues his fascination of bright lights at night. Discover more about Zimmermann at lucas-zimmermann.com.
