Travelogue is London artist Tom Farthing's latest series of paintings that take a closer look at his recent travels.
Visitor, Tom Farthing
On view at the Zimmer Stewart Gallery in Arundel this month, the artworks feature a palette reminiscent of Walter Sickert's landscapes, and although contemporary, they have a timeless quality to them.
Of course, Tom's work is often concerned with re-imagining figurative painting in a modern context. In 2018, he was an artist in residence at NES in Iceland, where he made drawings, watercolours and oil paintings from the landscape in and around Skagaströnd. He developed more work from his research on his return to London.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1982, Tom and his family moved back to the UK shortly afterwards. Today, he lives and works in London. He gained his MA in 2013 from the Chelsea College of Art, and his BA in 2005 from the Ruskin School, Oxford University.
Tom is also a printmaker, creating thought-provoking, semi-abstract screen prints. You can discover more of his latest work at tomfarthing.co.uk.
