In her series White, Blue & Wild Red Glory, Berlin-based photographer Stefanie Schmid Rincon shares a summer in New York City when she spent three months wandering the city streets with a 35mm camera, capturing the patriotic spirit of America.
Discovering flags on every corner, their stars and stripes fluttering in the warm breeze, she decided to focus in on the subject of American patriotism, something that she felt would be seen as unusual anywhere else in the world.
She explained: "For someone living in a country like Germany, for example, it's something strange and gets your attention, since this would not happen and it would get another kind of reaction. The USA is very much patriotic and somehow it looks very normal, and you get used to it very fast."
Stefanie grew up between Colombia and Germany. She moved to Berlin in 2008 where she graduated from Neue Schule für Fotografie Berlin in 2014 and has been working as a freelance photographer for the past five years. Check out more of her work via www.stefanieschmidrincon.com.
