For the sixth instalment of its acclaimed Art Series, the New York City Ballet has commissioned Los Angeles based artist Jihan Zencirli, also known as Geronimo, to create two giant installations out of more than 100,000 colourful balloons, completely overtaking the Lincoln Center.
Known as the "balloon genius", Geronimo's mission as an artist is simple: to delight people, according to LA Weekly, and these latest artworks, which have been designed specifically for the Promenade of the David H. Koch Theater, will no doubt put a smile on your face.
As she uses air to inflate the balloons, her installations are meant to reflect the passage of time as they change in accordance with the elements. "Rooted in my work is this reminder that you will only have this experience at this particular time," she says. "You’re here, you’re seeing it, you’re alive."
The incredibly bright and colourful balloon artworks will remain on display until 4 March, during all of the New York City Ballet's 2018 winter season performances. Find out more at nycballet.com.
