Rob Bailey was recently commissioned by Virgin Voyages, a new cruise operator under Sir Richard Branson, to create a series of illustrations to help launch its new website. The holiday brand will introduce three ships to the high seas in 2020, and so wanted imagery to hint at what's to be expected. In this case, probably a whole heap of glamour.
He produced four illustrations in his distinctive style – combining shapes and colours that are bold and reductive – to reveal the exact target market of Virgin's latest venture: adults-only cruises for a younger, cooler crowd keen to explore the Carribean.
Hailing from Manchester, Rob is fascinated with different outcomes for his illustration and, through his personal work, regularly looks to explore different printmaking techniques, animation and even sculptural projects. Rob's work has recently been exhibited as part of a group show at the Whitworth Museum in Manchester, and also at the Clerkenwell Design Festival in London.
Commercially, he has worked as an illustrator on a variety of large-scale projects with high profile clients including Virgin Voyages, Transport For London, Samsung, Google, Smirnoff, Mercedes Benz, Liberty, Salesforce, The British Heart Foundation, The Waves and Mykita. Rob's editorial clients include Creative Review, The New Yorker, New York Times and Brummell. He is represented by Outline Artists.
