A new art exhibition in Glasgow is using the power of ping-pong to help raise funds for a community table tennis club.
Aptly named SPIN, the show features table tennis paddles customised by artists, illustrators and designers from across Scotland.
Created by Glasgow-based design studio, Pim-Pam, names include Kirstie Addis, Greig Anderson, Craig Black, Niall Smillie, Diane Dawson, Chris Whyte, Poster Project, Paul Daly, Anna Dunn, Stuart Kerr, Marcus Marritt, Rachel E Millar, Jonny Mowat, Barry Thomson, Conzo Throb, Frank Quitely, KMG, Siobhan Ogg, Roddy MacNeill and Ishbel Mackenzie.
All proceeds from the three-week fundraiser will go to Drumchapel Table Tennis Club (DTTC), who provide a vital service in the heart of Glasgow.
Pim-Pam worked closely with Terry McLernon, Chairman at Table Tennis Scotland, to bring the idea to life. The studio's creative director, Luke McCarthy, said: "Terry and the club have kindly donated over 40 paddles for our creative community to get their hands on. We’ve had so much interest in the exhibition with artists all across Scotland looking to get involved.
"The designed paddles will be displayed throughout the exhibition and available for purchase through a silent auction, with all proceeds going back to the Drumchapel Table Tennis Club."
DTTC is one of the biggest clubs in Britain, with more than 300 members aged between eight and 80 actively playing each week. A key driving force in the Drumchapel Community Sports Hub, the club plays a huge part in the development of the sport in Scotland.
Based in Wasps Studio’s South Block building in the Trongate area of Glasgow, the SPIN exhibition runs until 19 April 2019. Discover more at www.pim-pam.co.uk/spin.
