Today marks the 50th anniversary of the much-loved 1971 film, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and to celebrate, LateRooms.com has created a themed hotel room, complete with lickable fruity wallpaper, free-flowing chocolate, giant lollipops and never-ending gobstoppers.
Sure, it's a nice marketing campaign for the hotel reservations website, pulled together by the PR agency, Radioactive, and no doubt a welcome boost for The Chocolate Box Hotel in Bournemouth where the room is based, but we'll take it – especially if it means we can live out our Golden Ticket fantasy.
You'll soon be able to book a stay at the bespoke themed room where you can expect lickable wallpaper with a variety of flavours, a luxurious chocolate fountain with dipping fruit and marshmallows, jars of gobstoppers, gumballs, chocolates and sweets in abundance, and pictures adorning the walls paying homage to the family favourite film, starring the late great Gene Wilder and based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl.
The bathroom, meanwhile, has more treats – chocolate-scented toiletries, jars of sweets, a purple robe and slippers – resembling the blazer Wonka wore himself – and, on request at an additional charge of £150, you can have the bathtub filled with liquid chocolate. Even the room key card is designed as a golden ticket.
If you're interested in finding out more, you can register your interest to be one of the first to know when the Willy Wonka-inspired hotel bedroom is available to book. It'll be priced at £200 per night. Don't worry...the lickable wallpaper will be replaced after each stay and all treats within the room are unlimited, restocked as per guests' wishes.
