We've been waiting with anticipation to see 2019's Fedrigoni 365, an annual book and calendar that asks 365 UK-based designers, illustrators and photographers to contribute a piece of work. Only 500 copies are made and sold with profits going to Shelter.
This time around, London studio, TM designed the volume which was printed by PUSH to one of 10 white sheets from Fedrigoni’s expansive collection of papers. The resulting book has a mille-feuille-like layering, from the blueish hues of X-Per Premium White to the warm tones of Materica Gesso and Old Mill Bianco. Each date has a spread of its own, giving the designs space to breathe, and the book itself an imposing size. The resulting white tome is part numeral muse, part source of historic facts and part thing of beauty.
Drawn together participants from across the creative industries in the UK, notable figures and agencies include Accept and Proceed, Anthony Burrill, Atlas, BCMH, Cartlidge Levene, David Pearson, dn&co, SocioDesign, MuirMcNeil, StudioSmall, OPX, Construct, Paul Belford, Pentagram, Pearlfisher, Two Times Elliot, Together Design, Willliam Hall and Wolff Olins – to name but a few.
Each participant was asked to contribute a piece of work interpreting a date provided to them at random. Confines were established to challenge each designer’s creativity by restricting the book to one colour print, which forced their pieces to focus strictly on concept, shape and form. Through these parameters, the Calendar has shaped into a beautiful visual story whose pace varies from page to page and spread to spread.
Profits will go to Shelter to help fight against homelessness and poor housing in the UK. To purchase your copy, either go to Counter-Print online, or pop into Fedrigoni's London studio, where you can also get a complimentary 365 tote bag with the book.
