The Association of Illustrators has unveiled the winners of its 40th World Illustration Awards, an annual international showcase of the most talented artists in the fields of advertising, editorial, publishing and communications. Announced by The Association of Illustrators’ Patron David Hughes, Jimin Kim and Jungho Lee were the overall winners in the Professional and New Talent categories respectively.
A graduate of Kingston University, Jimin is a Korean picture book artist, author, print maker and illustrator, currently based in Seoul. She enjoys creating a narrative and embodying it in a format of a picture book. Speaking of her award-winning picture book, judge Daehyun Kim said: "I wanted to peek through the little holes to discover fractions of personality. The title, the story, and the cut-out technique are just in perfect harmony."
Since graduating from the Hongik University in Seoul, Jungho Lee has worked as an illustrator for various media since 2007. Recently, he has focused on works for books and making his own picture book. Speaking of his winning entry, Judge Daehyun Kim said: “It is distinguished not just because of his outstanding technique, but great imagination. I think this is why the jury chose his book as the overall winner."
Other winners include Julinu, who scooped Advertising New Talent; Ami Shin for Children's Books New Talent and Thoka Maer for Design New Talent. Discover all of the winners at www.theaoi.com or enjoy viewing the artworks at an exhibition at Somerset House’s Embankment East Galleries throughout August. And if you can't make it to London, the show will be touring the UK over the next 12 months.
