Parterre de Rois' latest issue is inspired by gloomy elegance

Parterre de Rois is back with a brand new issue. After its award-winning fourth edition, which was dedicated to the theme of 'Happiness', it was time for something slightly more gloomy and elegant.

The fifth instalment of the series is devoted to the theme 'Black'. With 256 pages inspired by the obscure matter, the darkest colour, the symbol of pride and extreme luxury, it's a rich issue with guests including Anish Kapoor, alongside archive images from Peggy Olden, a mysterious audio CD curated by Jacopo Benassi, incredible collages by the beloved Stephen Dwoskin, and beautiful words by Angelo Flaccavento.

Curated from Milan by Molly Molloy and Gianni Tozzi, the magazine is printed in 500 numbered copies, making it a collectable item. Parterre de Rois mixes the known with the unknown, and the famous with the oddballs. Its previous contributors include Patti Smith, John Waters, Marina Abramovich and Bella Freud.

In regards to the duo's inspiration, Tozzi explains: "Inspiration comes from personal experience usually, Parterre de Rois is a very private matter, mixed with what we filter from the real world. The new issue for example is titled Black, because we felt like many things were getting heavier and darker globally, and we used the magazine to find an excuse for a new beginning."
